BC Transit Systems and
Bike Accessibility
Over the past few years bikes on buses in British Columbia has made significant gains. While some systems continue not to allow bicycles on the buses, others are 100% equipped to handle bikes. This latter group includes Nelson, Kelowna, and Kitimat. Ironically the two largest systems -- Vancouver and Victoria -- have a long ways to go to be 100% bike accessible. TransLink has assured cyclists that Greater Vancouver will have bike racks on all buses by 2005.
While the listing below is close to covering all transit systems in the province, there are a few places missed. Of the forty-four known systems you will find thirty-five below. Should you know more about a system please with any information.
Included are systems which allow bikes and those that do not. The British Columbia Cycling Coalition (BCCC) encourages local groups to lobby for improved bike access to transit systems. Should you want advice and support please contact the BCCC.
For each transit network listed below the major stakeholders involved in financially supporting transit are included. Should you be interested in changing bicycle access to transit in your community, it is recommended that you start by writing the officials of this group.
Good luck!

On-line resources
If you are looking for bikes on buses outside of British Columbia please examine the Philadelphia based BikeMap.com. Currently there are 306 transit systems listed that allow bicycles on board from across Canada, the United States, and around the world.
For further resources and general discussion of bikes on transit there is the Bikes-n-Transit list serve. This group discusses intermodal cycling with transit, intercity buses, trains, and airplanes. There is an archive dating back to March 1996 with plenty of information about bikes on buses. However the group is primarily American in focus.
For those that are looking for general discussion of transit operations in British Columbia outside of Vancouver and Victoria, there is a list serve devoted to this. The BC Transit Small Communities group can assist you.
Also feel free to forward any suggestions, comments, and criticisms to .
