Campaign and Engagement Coordinator

The British Columbia Cycling Coalition is seeking a passionate, ambitious, and enthusiastic individual who shares our dedication for improving cycling conditions to join our organization during this exciting period of growth. 

This multi-faceted position will play a key role in our organization's development and will include a variety of key organizational tasks including coordinating volunteers, engaging businesses and other not-for-profit organizations, helping manage projects and provide administrative support for Streets for Everyone, Bike Sense, the BC Bikes Conference, CycloTouringBC and our advocacy campaign efforts. Ideally (but not essential), we are looking an individual who would also be an instructor in July for Kids on Wheels, our new early childhood cycling education program.

Initially, the majority of the position will involve collaborating on the Streets for Everyone initiative in conjunction with the Streets For Everyone Coordinator and a passionate team of volunteer community members.

Streets For Everyone is a grassroots, community-driven initiative dedicated to vibrant streets designed for all people. Streets For Everyone advocates for improvements that make streets better public spaces that build community and enable all types of people to socialize, walk, cycle, take transit, and choose other modes of sustainable, healthy transportation on their favourite streets.  

While not essential, ideally, the person in this position would take on the part-time role of being a Kids on Wheels Facilitator. In our Kids on Wheels program, children are exposed to active lifestyles at the earliest possible age through the use of balance bikes and classroom activities such as books, bike toys, songs and discussions.

The British Columbia Cycling Coalition (BCCC) is a not-for-profit society consisting of individuals and organizations dedicated to encouraging people of all ages and abilities to cycle for transportation, recreation and tourism. We work with government, business, and not-for-profit organizations to promote and improve cycling in BC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruiting and coordinating volunteers for street teams, petitioning and public engagement at community events

  • Facilitating volunteer involvement in decision making and leadership roles in the Streets for Everyone campaign

  • Engaging organizations and businesses in BC Cycling Coalition advocacy campaigns and programs and Streets for Everyone activities

  • Communicating with supporters regarding news, activities, meetings and events via email, the website and social media

  • Organizing in person and conference call meetings

  • Assisting with Streets for Everyone project management and administration

Experience, skills, and assets

  • A passion for positive change, community-building, and environmentally sustainable communities are strong assets

  • Volunteer management

  • Relationship building and networking

  • Engaging and teaching young children (aged 3-5)

  • Project management

  • Advocacy campaigning

  • Administration

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Experience with Nationbuilder, Wordpress, Mailchimp, CRM systems and Google Docs an asset.

Knowledge and experience in the areas of fundraising, graphic design, complete streets and cycling education, tourism, promotion and safety also an asset.

Terms

This is a contract position for 80 hours per month which may increase as more funding becomes available. For July, 30 hours of that would include Kids on Wheels facilitation. The intention is for this to be an on-going position. The initial period of the contract will be three months starting at the beginning of July. The hourly rate will range from $17 to $22 per hour depending on experience.

This position will be based in Vancouver.

A current criminal record check is required for Kids on Wheels instruction. Any costs will be covered by the BC Cycling Coalition.
