Josh Bloomfield commented on Seaside Greenway emailer 2018-03-05 19:33:23 -0800As a parent of a young child, my leisure time revolves around visiting parks, playgrounds, pools and beaches year-round. One of the reasons we choose to keep living in Vancouver, unlike many of our peers who have left the city for more affordable, family-friendly cities and towns, is the amazing green space and bike paths we have in Vancouver. My family primarily travels by bicycle in the city and we find the infrastructure in and around Kits Beach extremely poor compared with the rest of the network and other parks in the city. Its a truly the only spot within a huge waterfront network that we have to detour or get off of our bike because we feel unsafe. When biking with my son we have found the detour through a parking lot to be extremely dangerous as cars pull out and circle for spaces. Biking in parks is one of our favourite activities as we usually feel safe and in nature, but that is not the case at kits beach.
In a professional capacity, I run Vancouver’s biggest bike tour company and the city’s second larges rental shop. We send tens of thousands of cyclists to city parks to enjoy nature, and in fact, beautiful nature is a top reason to visit our city. The spending from these visitors in Parks and neighbourhoods that have great infrastructure is a huge boost to the economy and those neighbourhoods in particular.
