brent granby commented on Seaside Greenway emailer 2018-03-11 17:03:11 -0700At your meeting on Monday, March 12, I urge you to vote for a safe and delightful Seaside Greenway route in the Kitsilano Beach area. The Greenway should be a park and seaside experience for both people walking and biking, similar in design and intent throughout the 28 km of Greenway.
This is an important moment for cycling in parks in the City. Park Board staff have been saying that Park Board wants cycling to, not through parks. This could really affect the great recreational, transportation and environmental synergies that cycling and parks share.
Commissioners, I want to be able to bike in the park with the children in my life learning to ride, the older family and friends who are less stable and all of the rest of us who love to get out in the fresh air and enjoy the exercise of biking! Bonus, we can get to the park in a non-polluting manner as well!
The Seaside Greenway Kits Beach area bike routing on the narrow shared path by the sea as well as on the roads by the parks is dangerous and not enjoyable year round. Improvements need to be made.
Although the scope of this project currently doesn’t include east of Maple Street, we encourage Park Board to work with Engineering staff to take this opportunity to look for a routing along the north side of Ogden Ave (to avoid legal issues with adjacent Hadden Park) and to connect in a safe way to the path through Vanier Park.
Let the Park Board know you want a safe and comfortable Seaside GreenwayTell the commissioners what a complete, separated Seaside Greenway through Kitsilano Beach would mean for your friends and family63 PEOPLE HAVE SENT EMAILS137 needed to reach 20063 PEOPLE HAVE SENT EMAILSHUB Cycling:email@example.comThank You for Supporting the Seaside GreenwayDear recipient.first_name_or_friend

Over the next few months, we will be focusing on encouraging the Provincial Government to make cycling a key part of their new Climate Leadership plan. Specially, we recommend that they invest $1 billion over the next 10 years to complete all ages and abilities cycling networks in communities around B.C and upgrade Provincial roads and bridges.
As well, we will be encouraging them to:
- support cycling education
- improve the Motor Vehicle Act to include a safe passing distance law and allowing riding two abreast
- Remove the PST on and add rebates for electric bikes
- reduce hazards and improve maintenance on roads and paths
- support cycling tourism
