The BC Cycling Coalition is excited to offer two positions this summer which will play a large role in expanding our activities and outreach efforts on provincial and local cycling issues in the Victoria area. Applicants must be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs. See Qualifications below for more details.
The Engagement and Policy Leads will be front runners in engaging with community members and communicating the work that the BC Cycling Coalition and the Greater Victoria Cycling Coalition (GVCC) are undertaking. There will also be opportunities to meet and work with local and provincial active transportation experts.
Duration: 8 weeks starting mid May
Schedule: 30 hours per week - some evenings and weekends required
Compensation: $15.00 per hour

Engage with a wide audience in conversations about cycling safety, infrastructure and design.
- Assist with developing, administering, and analyzing a community survey
Conduct outreach activities at major events and in public places in the Victoria Area
- Engaging businesses and organizations regarding cycling, the BC Cycling Coalition and the GVCC
Articulate the BC Cycling Coalition's and the GVCC's various activities and objectives to individuals, business owners, and stakeholders
Tasks and Responsibilities
Research and Planning
Plan outreach at community events including those with GVCC’s Bike Valet - recommend events, and logistics
Coordinate outreach volunteers
Research and help design survey(s)
Compile and produce report on survey results
Data Entry of new leads into NationBuilder using systematized tagging, and updating database with all outreach activities
- Mining NationBuilder for business and organizational leads
Assistance with planning documentation, tracking and reporting
Collaborate developing recommendations for active transportation policy based on gathered community input
On-street outreach in high traffic public spaces will be conducted with the hours not needed for the main events.
Engage in conversations with the general public, business owners, and potential partners
Coordination and Logistics
Plan, organize, and prepare materials required for outreach at events (print flyers, survey and sign-up sheets)
Coordinate the logistics for supplies and materials needed at outreach events
Help coordinate and correspond with volunteers
Help build relationships with businesses
Work in collaboration with the Greater Victoria Cycling Coalition and other organizations at events
Applicants must have been a student in 2017/2018, and intend to be in school on a full-time basis in the next school year, 2019/2020, to qualify for this position.
Applicants must be between the age of 15 and 30 at the start of employment.

Availability for outreach activities and meetings, including evenings and weekends.
Skills and Experience

Experience with volunteer coordination
Willingness to ask for other’s opinions about active transportation and infrastructure.
Passionate and knowledgeable about cycling and walking. Existing knowledge of the cycling community, and cycling policies and best practices an asset
Reliable, and committed to creating positive change
Ability to work with others and comfortable working independently
Ability to travel to public events at various locations as needed around the Kelowna area
Experience with a CRMs is a bonus. We use NationBuilder.
This position will extend over 8 weeks beginning late May, with some flexibility to extend the position if a vacation week is required within the specified 8 week period. The position is 30 hours a week, with required availability on select evening and weekends.
Compensation: $15.00 per hour (30 hours a week for 8 weeks), required standard employee benefits
