Do you feel that cycling could be safer in BC?
Consider, one morning a group riding single file along River Road going the right speed and to the side of the lane. They did everything right. Yet the group of six cyclists was still hit head on by a young driver, and yet one cyclist still died, leaving behind his parents and pregnant wife. (source: CTV news)
We believe everyone should have the right to feel safe on the road, and for families to enjoy precious time together, enjoying fresh air and exercise.
But we’re not even close yet. The BC Cycling Coalition wants the province to improve conditions for cyclists in BC.
We want the Province to invest in expanded cycling networks, improve education for drivers and cyclists, and update the Motor Vehicle Act itself. Plus, the BC Cycling Coalition is pressuring the BC government to put a safe passing law in place - 1.5 meters - to encourage drivers to make the roads safer for cyclists.
We can’t do this alone. We need your help. To dramatically increase investment in bike networks and to change legislation takes persistence and resources. That’s why we ask for your donation, especially now when whatever you donate could be doubled!
To support our work toward improving conditions for cycling, the BC Cycling Coalition has a target of raising $7,000 during this holiday season. That’s why we ask for your donation, especially now when donations of $100 or more will be matched by anonymous donors up to $2500. But this offer ends in the first week of the new year.
If you can donate anything, please give. Even small amounts will help us to reach the goal.
It is fair that people of all ages and abilities should be able to cycle safely, conveniently and enjoyably in any community in BC. Does every family in BC feel safe going for a ride with the kids? This is our vision. This the way it should be.
Help us get there. Please donate and help us get matching funds.
Thank you, and we wish you a safe and happy New Year!
Arno Schortinghuis, President, BC Cycling Coalition.
