Frequently Asked Questions

What is the total number of grants being offered by BCCC?

That really depends on the applications we receive. In previous years BCCC has given out 6-8 grants in the range of $2500 to $5000.

What is BCCC’s definition of small community?

BCCC will be giving priority to cycling communities and organizations across BC which have populations of >30,000.

The guidelines state that organizations applying must have no paid staff. Can you provide more information on this?

In the spirit of the grant guidelines, BCCC will be prioritizing cycling organizations that are generally volunteer run. However, we realize that at times volunteer organizations must hire contractors for specific work, for example to run an event or build a website. Past and present contract work would not disqualify an application from being accepted.

Do I need to be a BCCC member to apply?

Yes. BCCC Grants will only offered to BCCC Organizational members in good standing. Even if not applying for the grant, when you join the BC Cycling Coalition, you add your voice, and the voice of your employees, members and supporters, to an expanding provincial movement.

Can I use my grant money to pay for a membership with BCCC, or pay to be an organizational member after we are approved for a BCCC Community Cycling Grant?

No. Organizations who are not members of BCCC will be screened at the initial application intake level and not be approved.

Can you provide some examples of what kinds of programs BCCC is looking for?

If you deem yourself eligible based on the all the information provided, the key is to follow these basic guidelines for your idea when applying:

  • The activity is to defray the hard costs associated with an event, activity, or  campaign which is directed at education (Kids on Wheels), outreach, advocacy, or infrastructure development;

  • Travel costs for key volunteers to attend conferences, meetings or  educational opportunities;

  • Costs associated with the member organization hosting a community open  house or event promoting cycling;

  • Costs associated with producing campaign materials;

  • Within the  discretion of the BCCC, the small grants fund may also be used to provide matching funds to  organizations engaging in fundraising campaigns that align with BCCC’s Active Transportation  Platform.

I am wondering if Mountain Biking organizations are eligible? It seems to me, from reading the material, that this is mostly geared for commuting and road cycling. Is this correct?

Yes, if the application included a road to trail plan (MTB's require safety considerations if you ride from home to the trail), that would be something BCCC would definitely consider.
