E Bike rebates: update and news!

Want to buy an electric bike (“e-bike”), and need the latest info on rebates? As we here at the BC Cycling Coalition get so many questions about this everyday from our members, supporters and the general public, not surprising given the boom in e-bike sales, we thought it timely to provide the most recent information on e-bike rebates in the province of B.C.

For starters, everyone should know that people and businesses in B.C. can get money back when they buy a new e-bike.

E-bikes let you go farther, even with a load of groceries or the kids. E-bike riders skip the traffic, stay healthy, and fight climate change.

E-bike rebates for individuals

British Columbians who scrap a qualifying car or truck can receive $750 rebate when they buy a new e-bike.

E-bike rebates for businesses

Business owners in B.C. can get up to $1,700 when they buy a cargo e-bike. Cargo e-bikes can cut delivery costs and reduce truck traffic in our communities.

The rebate covers one third the cost of a cargo e-bike.

BCCC has noticed that some communities have amazing support for e-bikes. The District of Saanich's Community E-bike Incentive Pilot Program launched on Oct. 12 and offers three different rebates for residents who buy an e-bike of $350, $800 and $1,600, depending on their income levels.

To qualify, the bike must be bought after Oct. 12, cost at least $1,800 and be for personal, not commercial use.

We at the BCCC hope to provide more info in the coming months on new changes both at the community and also provincial scale. We will be posting more information regarding e-bikes in this space soon, so check back regularly!

The BC Cycling Coalition will continue to work with the provincial government to deliver smarter, healthier,  cleaner and more equitable transportation options in communities across B.C.

Help us advance and advocate for
active transportation issues across B.C.
